Members of the American Industrial Hygiene Association are industrial hygienists employed in government, industry, healthcare, military, research, academia and as consultants. These scientists are responsible for insuring worker safety and are experts in aerosol technology, asbestos abatement, biological monitoring, ergonomics, exposure assessment, gas and vapor detection, hazardous waste, ionizing radiation, noise abatement, occupational epidemiology, respiratory protection, risk assessment, toxicology and other related industrial safety and health issues. All members receive The Synergist as part of their membership. Founded in 1939, AIHA is a nonprofit organization with more than 75 local sections. Their members are highly educated professionals: 96% are college graduates, 61% hold master's degrees and 6% possess doctoral degrees.
